One truth that many entrepreneurs fail to understand is that taking a break can lead to breakthroughs. So often, we’re so deep in our work that we see the trees as the forest.
The obsession with the details and the never-ending tasks that need to be completed may make you feel like you just don’t have the time to take a time-out. It’s at times like these that you need to take time off from your work the most.
Music is the space between the notes. If you’re waiting to reach your ultimate goal before you take a break, you might end up waiting a long time. In most cases, people get burnout and quit before realizing their goals.
They push themselves too hard and expect to be machined. In reality, we’re humans. We need mental and physical rest. A break from the droning of the work machine that rings in our ears all the time.
Time off from work gives you ‘life on’. You start to see that life is not all about work and you discover just how much you’ve been missing out on.
Life is happening right now
The truth of the matter is that while you slog to reach your income goals, life is happening as you work. Enjoy your life as you work. As difficult as it may sound, it’s possible… and the easiest way to do it is to take some time off.
A 3-day break from work every 4 weeks will help to ‘ground you’ and slow down your frenetic pace. You’ll have time for yourself to self-reflect and look at how your life can be improved.
Mini-vacations
14-day vacations or even a week-long vacation can be difficult to plan and require quite a bit of money. However, it’s not the duration of the vacation that matters, but the amount of fun and relaxation you have during it.
Even a 3 or 4-day vacation can be great for the spirit. Bundle your family up and go on a short trip. A shorter vacation means that you won’t break the bank either.
Shorter and more frequent vacations are better than one long 2-week vacation once a year.
Don’t wait till the end of the year or for your business to hit some lofty milestone before you take time off to relax. Go on a mini-vacation and return all energetic and refreshed to take your work with new-found enthusiasm.
Take a day off
There are some people who work 7 days a week and this is especially true for entrepreneurs who work at home. In these situations, even a one-day break can work wonders.
Take a complete day off to relax. No work. No emails. No nothing. Just you and activities that have nothing to do with work. Enjoy the 24-hour break.
Your energy and passion for your work will dissipate if you have no time for a break. The irony is that the time off you take for work will be like fuel in your engine when you do return to work.
You’re not slowing down by taking time off for work. You’re speeding up. You’ll discover new ideas, and better alternatives and be able to take on bigger challenges when your mind and soul get a rest. This is priceless.
“There is virtue in work and there is virtue in rest. Use both and overlook neither.” -Alan Cohen
