Chronic stress can make life miserable. When you’re constantly worried about the bills, work commitments, your health, your family, etc. you’ll be on edge and sooner or later something’s going to give and it’s usually you.
In today’s society, weakness of any kind is frowned upon. We’re led to believe that we should grit our teeth and bite the bullet and dig in our heels and trudge forward… uphill… even when we’re exhausted.
This is a surefire way to a mental breakdown.
The biggest mistake that stressed-out individuals make is that they carry on with their life without proactively making any changes. They expect miracles to happen or for things to get better over time.
The truth is that nothing ever changes… and nothing is so bad it can’t get worse. Since they’re now in a position of diminishing returns, their output is lower because their energy is drained.
This can only lead to sub-par results which in turn makes their life even worse. It’s a vicious downward spiral that can only be reversed with proactive changes.
Write it down
The first thing you need to do is put it all on paper. Write down every single problem, obstacle, and trouble that’s weighing you down. This process can actually be cathartic and help to relieve stress.
Once it’s all on paper, you’ll know exactly what issues need to be dealt with. Try and solve the most urgent problems first. Once those are done, you’ll have the confidence and motivation to take on the rest.
Too often people try and solve all the issues at the same time. Their efforts are scattered over several issues and nothing gets settled. Focus on just one or two issues and go all out to remedy the problem.
Then move on to the next one and the next one. That’s how you do it.
Seek help
If you feel like you need someone to talk to, it’s fine to talk to a therapist. They may be able to offer advice or solutions that can help you.
You must get out of your own head. Your mind cannot solve problems that are created in the mind. You need to step out of the pessimism, worry, and confusion to seek clarity.
Eliminate the unnecessary
Work-life balance is very difficult to achieve if you have too many things going on in your life. In reality, to be truly happy, you need to have less confusion, fewer responsibilities, and fewer possessions.
A minimalistic lifestyle within reason will do more for work-life balance than 10 planners or productivity apps will. Seek to eliminate the bloat in your life.
Whatever doesn’t serve you, only weighs you down. Very often, people expand their expenses to meet their income. The more they earn, the more they buy.
The end result is that they’re working harder and longer just to make ends meet. Reduce your expenses. Avoid buying unnecessary items and aim to live a simple but rewarding life.
Contrary to popular belief, a simpler life is not a step backward. In fact, it’s many steps forward.
You’ll have fewer problems, less stress, and more work-life balance when you live a simple life. We come into this world with nothing, and we leave with nothing… but in-between, we shouldn’t work ourselves to death just to increase our possessions.
It’s madness. There is a better way.
Find balance and simplicity in all that you do and life will be wonderful.
